USE IT!!!

Great study guide. Highly recommend! I just passed my CLEP on American History 2 (1865 - present). I studied Newman's "United States History" and after I was finished I went over review questions in this Study Guide. It really focuses attention to the events and situations CLEP requires you to know for this exam.

I wish they sold this individually (thus cheaper) instead of a guide for all 33 exams. I only needed the one for American Government. Under than my little whine, this guide is good. It is important to note that this is just a guide. There's really nothing on this book except a breakdown of the exams and about 90 sample questions for each exams. You would need to buy other actual study materials.

The sample questions are worth their weigh in gold though. I took it right before actually studying for the exam and it is helping me figure out what is important and what is not while I am reading/studying the actual study material.

REALLY!!!!

I would like to give this book a great review, but it was over before I could fully get into it. I feel like, as customers, we're being played. I am loyal and have purchased several books by Ashley, even though I wasn't that impressed with some. Now, we're being charged $5.55 for 56 pages. REALLY!!! I will not purchase a 56 page book for $5.55. At this rate the book will cost over $30.00 before the series end. Great for her. Not so much for me. As a loyal customer I feel like I'm being robbed. Thank goodness for Amazon Unlimited.

A Love Like No Other In Flames

Reading part one of Love Burn, a short series by Mrs. Coleman has showed how much her writing is maturing. Ashley takes us readers into the lives of Dom and Noni... Their love moves very fast but it can be believable because sometimes love can sweep human beings off their feet. Dom wants to be legit but he is stuck between a nail and a hard rock with drug money. Noni on the other hand is having regrets but what do you expect when you marry someone in less than 72 hours. Hmmm. I want to see how this story goes and what will happen. Very different from her other plots but still in a fantasy of dope boy charming a girl love story

Si te gustan los libros llenos de aventura, diversi�n y mitolog�a griega, tienes que leer El Ladr�n del Rayo.

Percy Jackson es un chico de doce a�os, que ha sido expulsado de varios colegios y no puede concentrarse. Pr�cticamente todo el mundo lo toma como un fracaso, excepto su madre. As� que no es exactamente sorprendente cuando en su colegio solo tiene de amigo a Grover, le va mal en clases y alg�n que otro profesor lo odia. Lo que no estaba esperando era que su profesora se convirtiera en un monstruo e intentara matarlo.

Mas sorprendente aun es que nadie parece recordarlo. Pero en la historia de Percy hay muchos secretos, de los que su madre a intentado proteger hasta que ya no hay vuelta atr�s.

La voz de Percy me atrapo desde la primera pagina. Para ser un ni�o tan joven, es sumamente divertido y maduro, con la inocencia de su edad por supuesto. Cuando por fin descubre que no es nada menos que un semidi�s, las cosas se vuelven mas complicadas. Primero, nadie sabe quien es su padre. Y ahora lo est�n culpando de haberse robado el rayo de Zeus.

Queda en manos de el, su amigo Grover y su amiga Annabeth, de descubrir quien es el verdadero ladr�n y as� evitar una guerra entre los Dioses. Pero claro, los Dioses nunca han sido muy justos, y todos parecen querer hacer que Percy sea el culpable.

El viaje de estos tres chicos es muy divertido. Las cosas que les ocurren son inimaginables, es un viaje lleno de aventura y peligros, y siempre hab�an giros que siempre me sorprend�an.

La narraci�n es simple y se lee muy r�pido, y acompa�ado con la personalidad de Percy, se me hizo muy f�cil de leer. No se hizo pesado ni aburrido en ning�n momento, siempre estaba a la expectativa.

En conclusi�n, El Ladr�n del Rayo es una historia llena de mitolog�a griega, entrelazada con el mundo moderno que me encanto, y me arrepiento de no haberlo le�do cuando era mas joven porque creo que lo habr�a disfrutado mas. Definitivamente voy a seguir leyendo las aventuras de Percy Jackson, esta entre mis sagas favoritas.

Percy Jackson es otra de esas series que no necesita presentaci�n, ya sea por lo bueno que son los libros o por las (tan) malas adaptaciones en el cine. Aunque la historia no necesita algo m�s para ser buena, las nuevas portadas en M�xico son mucho m�s atractivas y coloridas que las originales y con acabados bastante llamativos.

Personajes

Percy es el protagonista de la historia, y su personalidad no podr�a ser m�s acertada para un chico de su edad. Pocos autores logran capturar la personalidad y los rasgos caracter�sticos de un adolescente como Rick Riordan lo hace. En el caso de Percy es un chico que padece de dislexia y por lo tanto es distra�do y relajado en casi todo lo que hace. Su car�cter desde este primer libro va evolucionando de manera natural, sin perder su esencia.

Grover, un s�tiro, es uno de los amigos de Percy que en este primer libro tiene la misi�n de proteger a Percy aunque su naturaleza de s�tiro lo hace dif�cil. Personalmente no es un personaje que me agrade tanto pero debo de admitir que tiene potencial para hacerme re�r.

Annabeth es es el elemento femenino en el tr�o de amigos. Su personalidad no es reservada pero si es estricta para consigo misma como para los dem�s. Su personalidad de chica independiente es similar al de Hermione en Harry Potrer. La relaci�n de Annabeth con Percy fluye con bastante normalidad, al ser adolescentes no hay una atracci�n tan intensa como en otros libros del genero YA

Historia

Como todo primer libro que es parte de una serie, El Ladr�n del Rayo se toma su tiempo para presentarnos todo un mundo que est� habitado no solo por personas, sino por dioses y semi-dioses de la mitolog�a griega. Aunque la historia se desarrolla en nuestro mundo actual, Riordan de toma el tiempo para construir un mundo cre�ble en el que la fantas�a se mezcla con la realidad de una manera bastante cre�ble.

La estructura de El Ladr�n del Rayo es bastante fluida, es uno de esos libros que te hace cambiar de p�gina instant�neamente no solo por lo bueno de la historia central, sino tambi�n por los di�logos y chistes de principio a fin.

Lenguaje, violencia, etc.

Hasta donde logro recordar no hay lenguaje inapropiado, dado que la lectura va dirigida al mercado 'middle-grade'. Si hay violencia fant�stica, recordemos que parte de la historia es esa tensi�n que existe entre el mundo humano y el mundo mitol�gico, peleas y luchas son parte de cada parada del viaje de los personajes principales.

Conclusi�n

La primera entrega de Percy Jackson es una lectura bastante entretenida y divertida. Dicho sea de paso, las lecciones de mitolog�a griega son gratis.

Comprehensive, but long

Pros: Very comprehensive in subject matter, good grouping of information, gives definition of key words at side of each page, contains summaries at the end of each chapter

Cons: Not visually appealing (only black and blue ink used, even in pictures), The sections are long and drawn out, no chapter review questions are given to test proficiency.

Overall, I thought I must have recieved an old textbook due to the lack of visual stimulation which helps me absorb the information. But I do have the most recent copy. I wonder why they would cut corners in this regard even though the book sells for as much as other books that make reading easier by providing a more pleasant visual experience.

But it is a college level book, so I can't complain too much. The quality of information is good.
