G. E. R. Lloyd is Emeritus Professor of Ancient Philosophy and Science at the University of Cambridge, Former Master of Darwin College, Cambridge, and Senior Scholar in Residence at the Needham Research Institute, Cambridge. He is the author of twenty-two books and editor of four, and was knighted for 'services to the history of thought' in 1997.

No delusions only a misinterpretation needing corrections

This review made prior to mine is totally erroneous and full of errors in understanding of the teachings of this book.

Let's start with the first statement "There is so much nonsense passed off as 'scholarship' in 'Dr' Ashby's books that it really boggles the mind." Yet this statement is made only to calumniate the author and not refute the scholarship that the author provided with historical dates, locations, anthropological evidences, Greek historical quotes book sources for statements made within his opus. Next statement "These books come out of the black nationalist movement, where fabricated history is passed off as authentic. Where every African-american is descended from the Ancient Egyptians, nevermind the fact that their tribal origins can be identified from simple DNA testing." Yet the author of the book never made the statement in this book nor any of his 60+ books of African Americans being from Egypt, on the contrary Dr.Ashby's book does state the biological fact that ALL PEOPLE ON EARTH have their ancestry from Africa and that all humanity is related as brothers and sisters. Dr.Ashby is a teacher of Yoga "union"not the racial rhetoric that the previous reviewer is attempting to place on him. The previous reviewer stated "Ashby and his ilk are selling fantasies as reality and contributing to the intentional deception of ethnic origins that have caused so many blacks to feel lost and unrooted in America." Again there is no fact in this statement merely opinion based on erroneous understanding of the teaching in this book and deep seeded issues that has given the reviewer prejudice to this opus.

"The genetic fact is that African-americans came from Africa. It is also a genetic fact that they did not come from Egypt, but from West Africa." To this statement I reply again that the author of this book never made such a claim, however, many tribes in west Africa do state they migrated from north Africa and some state Egypt, so I advise the reviewer to do his research on the west African tribes and their migration there before just making such a blanket statement. Then the reviewer again makes a prejudicial comment stating "To deny this by creating some bogus fantasy origin does great harm to the ancestors of these people as well as the people themselves. This book encapsulates the worst kind of lie and propagates a contempt for tribal origins that once was the specialty of slave owners." Dr. Ashby has not stated in any way, shape, form, or fashion the origin of African Americans in particular being from Egypt. What the author has stated was the origins of the ancient Egyptians from Ethiopia and the origins of human life stemming from central Africa at the origin of the Nile in Mount Kilimanjaro and Kenya which science confirms. I would suggest the reviewer question the author himself instead of being so prejudiced and biased on the magnum opus entitled "The Kemetic Kemetic tree of life". The author encouraged feedback and questions so as to clear up any confusion and misinterpretation of the teachings, the website is on the back cover of the book and once you get on the website you can email the author instead of slandering him before you get the gist of what he's saying peace and blessings.

A very important book if you are searching for answers to the mysteries of life

I had been reading and doing research on ancient Egypt for some time. Mostly, I was fascinated with the pyramids, Giza, Sphinx, etc. The further I delved into the subject, the more interested I became into who these advanced, very intelligent ancient Egyptians were...what did they know? But the most intriguing question I had was: What was their view on the cosmos and creation? I myself come from a moderate Muslim background so I know that view only. My personal research indicates that the 3 Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism) borrowed much of their beliefs from ancient Egyptian spiritual philosophy, used it as the foundation, and then each of these religions added their own extras. So that tells me that the ORIGINAL Kemetic source would be the best to learn from. Every time I was doing research, Dr. Ashby and The Kemetic Tree of Life kept popping up. So I knew the cosmos was telling me to check it out. I read the Amazon "Look Inside" and I loved it! It was exactly what I was looking for.
I was new to higher consciousness and metaphysics so I did not know much except for what organized religion tells me to believe (but that's another story). Dr. Ashby's book was not difficult to understand. You can tell his sincerity in the writing, you can feel it creep into your soul. It was like reading a book that offered me a new way to look at the world. It will take some re-reading, but this is a very important book if you are searching for answers to the mysteries of life from one of the earliest civilizations.

A gem from my girlhood!

This is the book that inspired me to be a nurse - I read my original copy (I won't say how many years ago!) until it fell apart. I just re-read it and it took me right back. It reminded me of when it was common to be kind, caring, and loving. It was a good reminder that maybe we all should take time to care about others and maybe want something NOT for how much money or fame it will bring, but for how much it will help others.

The next books from those days that I want to find are the biographies of Florence Nightingale and Dr. Tom Dooley.

How good is it to pick up the Dalai Lama’s latest musings on ethics being more important than religion’ for free on kindle?

For those who know the Dalai Lama’s themes, this short book provides a refresher or for those new to the Dalai Lama this provides an approachable introduction.

The baseline message is there. Co-operation is more constructive than competition. Compassion and love is more effective than more negative emotions.

This book has a focus on our modern wars. Islam is not mentioned once in the book but surely is a lot of what he refers to. Another key theme which he is much stronger on these days is environmentalism. For me, it’s notable in a book written by him about ethics is that he does not renew his appraisal of the psychology industry in the West. Amazingly, he still sees potential for him being returned to China and he points to the reunification of Europe to make this point.

I love the Dalai Lama's approach to enlightenment through joy so I appreciate his philosophy. The nice thing about this book is the recognition by a major religious leader that religion too often falls short of serving our most common needs and that a secular set of ethics might be a more appropriate tool set. It's not easy for a religious leader to admit that their religion is not the end all be all for everyone, especially considering everyone thinks their religion is the true answer to all our problems.

Ages 5-9. In this legend from Mexico, a little girl, Lucinda, is proud to help her mother weave a new blanket for the Baby Jesus to be used in a Christmas procession. But when Lucinda's mother takes ill, Lucinda tangles the yarn and is unable to complete the blanket. Feeling she has ruined Christmas, Lucinda is reluctant to go to the procession until a mysterious old woman appears from the shadows and tells Lucinda, "Any gift is beautiful because it is given. Whatever you give, the Baby Jesus will love because it comes from you." Nervously, Lucinda grabs an armful of weeds, which she brings into the church. As she prays, the weeds open into dazzling red flowers that decorate the altar. The story has a simple dignity, but it is the artwork that takes center stage here. The spreads, which feature everyday occurrences (set in a generic era), are magnificently staged and colored and culminate in the last spread--Lucinda praying at a crŠche, with a profusion of poinsettias decorating the pages. I used this book as a unit last Christmas on traditions and folklore around the world. Everyone loved it, parents and children alike. Many asked where they could purchase the book to make it permanent part of their Christmas library.

Great story with little historical accuracy

If you are looking for the true story of the legend of the poinsettia, this is not it!!! The only thing that is the same about the legend from Mexico and this story is the fact that the poinsettias were made red on christmas eve because a little girl brought baby jesus a weed for his birthday because she was so poor. the names, plot, and special saying that the little girl's brother said in the legend is not in this book, which takes away the impact of the story. the drawings although are beautiful and the story is nice if you don't know the real legend.

This book was one of the best children's books that I have ever read. Well, here's what it's about: This is about a girl named Lucida and her family. Christmas {or la Navidad as it's referred to in the book} is drawing near and every year at Christmas, a manger scene is put at the front of the town church. Well this year, the blanket they use to wrap around the baby Jesus has become old and worn. So the priest asks Lucida's mother to weave a new one because her skills are so excellent. She accepts, and with help from Lucida, they then begin to weave a beautiful blanket. But unfortunately, just before they finish, on the day before Christmas Eve Lucida's mother gets ill. Lucida can't finish the blanket alone, but she tries anyway because her family would have nothing to offer to baby Jesus. When her attempt fails, Lucida's very upset and doesn't want to take part in the procession going into the church. She then meets an old woman who turns her thoughts around and teaches her a very important lesson. To find it out, read the book today!
What a great book for children to read. This book teaches that no matter what gift you give someone, whatever you do, it doesn't have to be the best, the most expensive {ect. ect.} it just has to come from the heart. That's a lesson that kid's these days should learn, as well as some adults. So read this book to your children today, I'm sure you'll love it..
