Great if you are bareboat sailing

If you are chartering a sailboat around French Polynesia you should get this book or the Cruising Guide book to plan your itinerary. Bring it along and use it too. It helps you navigate, saves you time by pointing out good anchorages, and gives you perspective as to where you are when you are sailing around. If your not sailing, get one of the travel books. About the Author
X. J. Kennedy, after graduating from Seton Hall and Columbia, became a journalist second class in the Navy. His poems, some published in The New Yorker, were first collected in Nude Descending a Staircase (1961). Since then he has published seven more collections, including a volume of new and selected poems in 2007, several widely adopted literature and writing textbooks, and seventeen books for children, including two novels. He has taught at Michigan, North Carolina (Greensboro), California (Irvine), Wellesley, Tufts, and Leeds. Cited in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations and reprinted in some 200 anthologies, his verse has brought him a Guggenheim fellowship, a Lamont Award, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize, an award from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, an Aiken-Taylor prize, and the Award for Poetry for Children from the National Council of Teachers of English. He now lives in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he and his wife Dorothy have collaborated on five books and five children.

Dana Gioia is a poet, critic, and teacher.�Born in Los Angeles of Italian and Mexican ancestry, he attended Stanford and Harvard before taking a detour into business. After years of writing and reading late in the evenings after work, he quit a vice presidency to write and teach. He has published four collections of poetry, Daily Horoscope (1986), The Gods of Winter (1991), Interrogations at Noon (2001), which won the American Book Award, and Pity the Beautiful (2012); and three critical volumes, including Can Poetry Matter? (1992), an influential study of poetry's place in contemporary America.
Gioia has taught at Johns Hopkins, Sarah Lawrence, Wesleyan (Connecticut), Mercer, and Colorado College. From 2003 to 2009 he served as the Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. At the NEA he created the largest literary programs in federal history, including Shakespeare in American Communities and Poetry Out Loud, the national high school poetry recitation contest. He also led the campaign to restore active literary reading by creating The Big Read, which helped reverse a quarter century of decline in U.S. reading. He is currently the Judge Widney Professor of Poetry and Public Culture at the University of Southern California.

Excellent book. Very enlightening.

As an elementary school teacher trying to shed light on all cultures and traditions, I absolutely loved this book and the way it introduced children to the far too unexplored Armenian culture. During our all-nations celebration, we took time to explore the special holiday traditions from cultures all around the world. This wonderful book perfectly depicts all of the interesting celebrations unique to the Armenian culture. My students and I all truly enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to anyone looking to introduce children to the unique and aspects of Armenian heritage.

About the Author

Englishman Roger Marshall designs boats and writes about them for a living and has done so for more than forty years. But his avocation is his two greenhouses and when he is not working or traveling he can be found in one or the other. Marshall learned his gardening techniques in England before moving to Rhode Island. When he built his house in Jamestown. he created several gardens from rough overgrown land. Then he built two 300-square-foot greenhouses, one heated and one unheated.

In the heated greenhouse he has banana, key lime, lemon, orange, and a variety of other tropical fruit trees and herbs. In addition, there are many flowering plants, almost as many vegetables, succulents, and herbs as well as a hydroponic gutter around the sides of the greenhouse that yields greens all winter long.

In his unheated greenhouse, he grows greens all winter long and forces many fruits such as strawberries and rhubarb using the techniques described in this book. In summer the greenhouse switches to tropical mode and grows tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and various squash, melons and other heat loving plants.

Marshall is also editor of Home Greenhouse, the magazine of the Hobby Greenhouse Association, and a member of the Garden Writers Association, the Ocean State Orchid Association, and the Rhode Island Dahlia Society.

Priceless info

Excellent view of greenhouse growing, tips and photos. Lots of information - I don't grow orchids but am interested in extended season greenhouse growing and be it veggies, citrus, herbs, even flowers and cactus it's in this complete book. The author has experience beyond reading about growing in greenhouses, which comes through in the advice. Beautiful detailed pictures, detailed information about growing, both challenges and advantages, in the greenhouse. Nicely done. In full disclosure I viewed mine on NetGalley, but this will take a place on the bookshelf to review and look up info when needed. Do it right the first time and save thousands on wasted material, wasted plants and frustration...buy this book and learn to do it right from the start.

I found this author clearly knew his stuff as he discusses common questions you might have and provides insight and know-how and many practical tips. Additionally, I found his discussion on growing individual, specific plant families and species to be well worth a second and third read - this will be a great reference for a long time

Enjoyable read and very informative but I made the mistake of ordering it on my kindle and can't read any of the charts and graphs in the book. I wish that I wasn't so anxious and waited to order the book in the mail.

I just received my copy of this AMAZING book!!!! I cannot wait to share this "new magic" with my 10 year old daughter this Christmas season. It is one of the most beautifully written children's books I have read. I am certain it will become a classic in families for generations to come. It is the very BEST way to transition your children into being big kids at Christmas. Thank you Mrs. Atkinson for sharing this story and helping out us parents unsure of how to explain Christmas and the magic to our older children.

Wow, what a beautiful and well done book. I struggled to find the right way to tell my oldest and still have two more children to go so I am grateful to have this book. It is so sweet and keeps the magic alive with out spoiling the fun. Highly recommend it!!!!

Fantastic book!

Unbelieveable book! Thank you Julie Atkinson for writing this. My son is 10 and I know the time is near. I have great anxiety over this conversation since my personal experience wasn't the best. Once I received and read this book, it made my worries melt away (at least a little). It is a well written, well illustrated, sweet book.
I highly recommend this book and grateful to have found it!

Ken Harrison has been so severely injured in a car crash that he is totally paralysed; only his brain functions normally. He is being kept alive by the miracles of medicine, but wishes to die. This he could achieve by discharging himself from hospital but being wholly helpless has to gain the authorities' consent. The play examines the moral and legal aspects of the situation and the reactions of the hospital staff.

A drama dealing with the serious matter of dying with dignity. Brian Clark somewhat playfully shows us a character who is paralyzed
from the neck down. The comings and going of the hospital staff and the light banner (which ignores the elephant in the room)
which passes between the patient and the staff keep us off balance as to the miserable feelings of the patient as he lies
helpless waiting to die. But wanting to die is not enough. There are legal and ethical decisions to be made before the patient can go home to die as he wished. Clark shows us how the legal system works against the wished of the patient and how the doctor in charge
struggles to do everything he can to keep the patient in place although there is nothing medically he can do which will change the patient's mind. Finally we are faced with the ultimate question: "Is it morally right to sustain a painful life or to opt for an easy death when
the patient has no real life to live and wants to leave this earth" Clark handles these serious life-ending questions with a sensitivity
and even a sense of humor,but there is no doubt as to which side he is on.

A Jarring Thought Experiment

What is the value of a life and who should be able to make life-changing decisions in the case of a crisis? This question and it's implications become clear as glass in this short play. After I started reading, I couldn't stop until I was finished. While the conclusion may not be expected, it leaves a lot to think about.

whose life is it - the right freedom to choose is as relevant today as it was when this play first written- prefer the single habded version but couldnt get a copy of that anywhere.
