Read This Book Now!

A more accurate title for this book might be "Prudent Financial Management: How to Feel Good About Yourself When You Reach 50." Please read it all the way to the end (a mere 180 pages) before passing judgment on its values or wisdom.
This is the insider advice that a shrewd, experienced, brutally honest, and wealthy grandfather would give to his favorite grandchild upon graduation from college. I wish someone had explained all this to me when I was 22 or 25 or 30.

Now that I am well passed 50, I recommend this book to you in the hope it will contribute to the happiness of your life. Read it now; read it ten years from now and every decade following. You will appreciate its good sense more and more as years pass.

A good book with a poor title.

I still have the paper back copy of this book that I bought back in 1989. Its pages are worn from being read over and over.

The advice given in this book is good, common sense investing advice that will stand the test of time. The only times I have gotten in trouble with my investments is when I failed to follow his advice. Thanks in part to this book I was able to retire back in 1996 at the age of 56. I'm still retired and enjoying it. Two other books that helped me were "Work Less & Play More" by Steven Catlin and "Cashing in on the American Dream" by Paul Terhorst.

he is a brilliant writer and this is one of my favorite works ...

The use of Power in the title is indicative of the entire book. It;s a powerhouse, a sweeping masterpiece. Allegations that the author wrote from first hand experience and was extremely boastful aside, he is a brilliant writer and this is one of my favorite works of Historical Fiction.

This book will appeal to anyone curious; athletes, authors, women, men, peacemakers, truants - wonderful work. Highly recommend. Very interesting and eye opening foray into South Africa at a pivotal time as well.

Still remains my fave.

I first read this book when it was new and before the movie came out. I was in my late teens, and the world watched the magnificent Nelson Mandela be released from his long incarceration.

The Power of One quickly became my favourite, and certainly a very influential book for me. My nephew - who had never been one to touch a book, fell in love with the written word after I read out to him the scene where Doc and Peekay discover the Crystal Cave of Africa. My mother and I could almost hear the sound of the inmates of Barberton Prison as they sang their pride, longing and love during The Concerto for the Great Southland. My father and I cried when Peekay finally had his justice against the vile bully known as The Judge. And who didn't want Grandpa Chook in their backyard?

I've revisited this book many times, and I have to say I fall in love with it all over again each time I read it. As I reach different stages of my own life, the humanity in this wonderful book reaches out and touches me again and again. It makes me feel every different emotion imaginable, and this to me makes it feel like real life wrapped up in a take-anywhere cover.

WOW.... This book is amazing.

I read this book for our book club and at the beginning I was completely overwhelmed. It is a very long book (over 500 pages) and the print is very small. This is not a book I would normally read and I was a little nervous that I wouldn't be able to finish it in time.

Let me tell you this is, by far, one of the best books I have ever read. I wasn't enirely interested in the beginning, but after about 80 pages I was hooked. It is so different than most other books of this genre. The relationships between Peekay and everyone he encounters are so interesting, inspirational and a teaching tool. A wonderful read. I can now see why they have a school version of this book as I wanted my 12 year old to read it but there are a few parts that are not appropriate for a 12 year old boy. Mostly due to growing up and the crazy feelings that boys go through during puberty.

The narrator starts as a 5 year old boy with a mentally/depressed mother and is sent to boarding school.. This sets up his relationships with mentors of every kind for the rest of his adolescence.

While you are reading you are completely convinced the story is going in one direction and then does not. I wasn't sure I liked the ending until I read it three times then decided it was perfect.

A great book and learning tool to understand racism of every sort, to understand ignorance, and to read about love, redemption and acceptance. This book also helps us to understand the beauty of a culture that is so different than ours and beautiful if not tamed.

This is an amazing book from a very gifted author. I literally read the last three chapters over and over because I didn't want it to end. For those of you who are stuck in the middle during the prison/fighting scenes, don't give up... that's just a small part of this masterpiece.

Bravo Bryce Courtenay. If you ever write the sequal I will be ready....

I do not recommend this book for doll repair education

This book is an advertisement-whole book features different artists that tell about themselves. The last few pages have instructions on making outfits for dolls. I am looking for an educational book on re-rooting, re-painting doll faces, vinyl repair, etc and was very disappointed in this book-it is useless for learning how to restore dolls.

Outstanding resource

Gorilla Theory gets project management out of the zoo and into the "jungle". Reading this book before, during, and after any project no matter the budget is a MUST DO. Whatever tool you choose to use for project tracking, ITEM #1 - Buy Gorilla Theory Item #2 - READ Gorilla Theory. Then proceed. The advice and hindsight built into this book is sound. (Hang on, I'm winding my watch) If you are in the middle of project purgatory it's not too late for redemption. I'm at the end of a 40% failed delivery project. Everyone has scattered and now were on clean up mode. I've already put into practice some of the items and the stakeholder thanked me for putting a pause on some action steps based on lack of knowledge items. That's a plus. I am now applying this to two other projects as well as my beer making space and workbench in my garage. The simplicity put practice into sound tools.

Still early days yet, in terms of my progress through this book, but already I find myself flicking back through the pages to refer to a gem or two. Simply put, the text manages to be inspiring and practical in equal measure. All too often project management book lean too much on the theoretical side without getting dirty in the application. So far, the guidance here has found the perfect balance.

Worst yet

This author has a special gift of ruining her own stories. Noah deserves better and I am not sure I will be reading the next book. It almost feels like she wants her fans to give up on this series. I have never read a book with so many typos… so many that at times I could'nt piece together what the author was really trying to say. Even if you love this series I am not sure this book is worth it - maybe better to have your own game of "Trust Me" and imagine this story the way it should be.

I had the opportunity to beta read release me.... Melanie is one of my favorite authors her work is deep, real and extremely emotional I have bawled like a baby in everyone of her books.. That being said here goes my review...
*SPOILERS*
the story starts off with an absolute life changer.... Yep 3% in you already want to yell at someone...this is where you meet Axe....and fall in love with cal. This changes his course for everything cal has been planning to get tayla back.... I absolutely adored cal in this book, the last 3 books I wished someone would just slap him upside the head, so emotionless and quite frankly an jerk! We all new how he actually felt but the way he handled anything to do with emotions floored me. Now...in release me we actually see cal, we see what he's capable of... And that he is capable of loving not only tayla but his friends, and his family...even his enemy....in the form of jenny pope...

Cal tries about everything to show tayla he is the man for her, to show her he has changed, ugggg tayla made me quite mad though...messing with cals head, and refusing to see what's in front of her to open up.. But cal....omg...cal, in all his glory reels her in, seeing the way he is with axe and how axe came to be destroys me, the way Melanie writes....she has me hanging on every word...and in the end....instead of tayla throwing massive tantrums....surely something I would have done in her situation.... She takes charge and shows what an amazing person she is......

Now onto Noahs role in this story......poor, poor Noah.....Noah has so much wisdom, while he fixes everyone else...he just can't fix himself....he's hit rock bottom..... And now I'm angry.. Lol...
I can't wait for Noah's story.... And I hope you all love this book as much as I did... This book has so much depth and feeling.... I'm kinda left feeling excitement and anger for what's to come!!!

Is She Worth the Trouble?

Let me start off by saying that I love this series, but this book really disappointed me. If you read the other books in this series you know Cal was an a-hole but you couldn't help but love him. As for Tayla I liked her in the previous books, but in this one I couldn't stand her. As Carrie said, "She needed to get off of her high horse". Cal was doing everything he could to make amends for all he had done and Tayla was being a major b$%&* about it. She wouldn't let Cal explain himself, she would just run away.
I really wonder at who proof reads books. At one point it said that Axe was clinging to Cal's leg and he picked him up. The two sentences later Cal picks him up again when he hadn't put him down, or if he did it wasn't stated in the book.
I would still recommend reading it because in the end it still brought me to tears with Noah. Although I am not sure I am happy with the direction it looks like Noah's story is headed. I would rather he fell in love with someone else instead of who it appears it will be.
