I think some things about Japanese are REALLY clicking with this book! It's like I found a key to unlock Japanese in my head. I used to be intimidated by kanji but now I know it's a lot more helpful than I originally thought!

Kanji From Zero! is a Japanese kanji book series built on the idea that learning kanji shouldn't be mechanical and shouldn't only be about learning the readings of each kanji. The relationship to Japanese culture and the way kanji is integrated into Japanese life is key in establishing a strong foothold in integrating kanji into your Japanese fluency!
About the Author
George Trombley is a professional Japanese interpreter who over the past 16 years has interpreted for corporations such as Microsoft, IBM, NTT DoCoMo, Lucent Technologies, and in countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In addition to the "Japanese From Zero!" series and "Korean From Zero!" series George has consulted on Chinese, French, and Spanish language books.
Yukari Takenaka moved from Himeji, Japan to the United States, and taught Japanese for over 10 years while co-authoring custom lessons for students that eventually became the basis of the Japanese From Zero! book series. Prior to becoming an author, Yukari worked in Japan as a professional in the medical industry. She continues to write Japanese related materials to support her passion for teaching Japanese.

I like the format and the kanji order

I like the format and the kanji order. Easy to follow and it has lots of great information about kanji and culture that helps to make it all make sense. The word choices are also useful rather than archaic. The glossaries in the back are very helpful and actually useable. There are a few things I would add/change. Add Heisig Numbers so those of us who want to incorporate mnemonics can look it up easily. Because I teach teens, I would prefer the answer key to be either in the back of the book or be backed by a blank page so it can be removed rather than at the end of each chapter.

Awesome book for learning Kanji

I only had this book a few days and therefore cannot give a full 100% review of it's content, but upon studying the first couple lessons, here is my impression. This is the best book on Kanji I have tried to study from. Other books are either way too dull or too complicated with their explanations and/or try to explain too much at one time which is not good for many people to try to learn.
Each kanji section shows the Kanji displaying the correct stroke order, the English definition, the Kunyomi (Japanese reading), Onyomi (Chinese reading) and some basic sample words using that Kanji. Then the lesson will contain practicing writing that Kanji, practicing writing that Kanji in sample words, using the Kanji in sentences, matching Kanji and other fun lessons. The answer key to the lessons is at the end of each lesson which is much more convenient than going back and forth looking for the answer key at the end of the book. Great design.
Would highly recommend this book to anyone studying Japanese.

Overall I like the book. It has a lot of typos, which is not acceptable in this kind of book.
